"We Love Sundays" holds a dj contest every summer to seek out new talent ("fresh blood" is their way of putting it). The winner gets a free trip to Ibiza to play at Space, which sounds like it might be fun...but maybe also not.
What is someone who's never been supposed to think about Ibiza? Throngs of horny, twenty-something Brits, German tourists with nuclear fake-bake tans, DJs with egos even bigger than the arena-clubs they play in? Or is it just, like, fun; good music, nice weather, drinks? Can I go in a t-shirt? Or am I, like, supposed to wear something sparkly?
To maybe, potentially, eventually try to answer that question, I got some records together and pressed "record." The set was one part deep latin stompers (Felicidade, Ole, Playing With Spears) and one part more-or-less-rare deep house classics (I Wanna be Free, Fantasy, Organ Nights). I finally got to drop my recently-acquired copy of Crue-L Grand Orchestra's masterpiece "(You Are) More Than Paradise," which I've been after since it came out in 2002. It was a good afternoon.
If you're on Soundcloud please add me, or follow me, or favorite me, or whatever it's called.
Also, for the DJs out there, visit Space's webpage for contest information. If you end up winning (and you heard about the contest here), I only ask that you stop over in Seville for a quick visit on your way home from Ibiza and tell me all about it.
